Internship Program
Four-Week Internship Plan: PAF-IAST:-PHC
This four week internship plan is designed for students of BS Biomedical Engineering Technology who have completed second year of their degree program and studies courses like; AutoCAD, Basic Electrical Engineering, and Biomedical Instrumentation. The focus areas of the internship include schematic planning, designing layouts, and medical equipment layout.
- Identify relevant skills/tools for assigned tasks. (ILO1)
- Implement knowledge regarding assigned tasks. (ILO1)
- Comprehend problems and execute logical solutions. (ILO2)
- Demonstrate the ability to work professionally and communicate effectively. (ILO3)
Week 1: Orientation and Tools Familiarization
- Introduction to internship facility and safety protocols.
- Overview of biomedical equipment layout requirements and medical facility standards.
- Hands-on sessions on AutoCAD and schematic design software.
- Review of basic electrical concepts relevant to hospital and laboratory environments.
Week 2: Schematic Planning and Technical Sketching
- Understand functional and spatial requirements for medical environments (e.g., ICUs, OTs, diagnostic labs).
- Create initial schematic diagrams and equipment zoning using AutoCAD.
- Interpret biomedical equipment specifications and their spatial/electrical requirements.
- Collaborate in teams for peer review of initial designs and incorporate feedback.
Week 3: Designing Equipment Layouts
- Draft detailed equipment layout plans integrating schematic inputs.
- Factor in considerations like power supply routes, safety margins, signal lines, and patient ergonomics.
- Identify design challenges and participate in brainstorming for optimal solutions.
- Document all designs and rationale in a structured technical format.
Week 4: Finalization and Presentation
- Finalize layout designs based on feedback from technical supervisors.
- Compile complete documentation including schematics, equipment layouts, and technical justifications.
- Prepare and deliver a formal presentation of the internship project.
